Gillian has recently graduated from her Masters in vocal performance at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland, under the tuition of Kathleen Ferguson. She also graduated as a soprano on the vocal and opera studies course at the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama in July 2013. Gillian is an established concert recitalist and regularly performs alongside pianist Helen Wilkins. She is renowned for her versatility and accessibility as a performer and has a particular love for English song. She is also often invited as a guest soloist with choral groups and male voice choirs. Recent highlights include performing the soprano solos in Handel’s Messiah, Mozart’s Requiem and the Bach Magnificat plus recitals at the Wells Music Festival and for the Shipston-on-Stour Music Society.
Alongside her concerts, Gillian also enjoys performing in operas. Most recently Gillian played the roles of The Female Chorus (the narrator role) in ‘The Rape Of Lucretia’-Britten and The Fox in ‘The Cunning Little Vixen’- Janacek. She also played the colourful character of Madame Kirsten in The UK premiere of the American opera ‘The Beautiful Bridegroom’ by Dan Shore. Last Summer Gillian enjoyed performing as a young artist in ‘Jenufa’ at the Longborough Festival Opera.
Gillian was delighted to be winner of The Chris Treglown Foundation Fund which supports the training of young singers. She was a prize winner in the prestigious English song competition The Courtney Kenny Award and has been awarded senior vocal champion in the Bristol Festival of Music, Speech and Drama, in addition to winning the opera, oratorio and art song classes.
In Summer 2014 Gillian was chosen to attend a week’s training workshop with the Welsh National Opera company. In previous years, she was accepted on two Italian Opera courses in Puglia, where she enjoyed studying the roles: Susanna- Le Nozze di Figaro, Norina- Don Pasquale, Despina- Cosi Fan Tutte and Servilia – Clemenza di Tito.
